Hi, it’s Julie, and I’m so glad you’re here.
Before I tell you about me, I want to tell you about someone else - my dear friend and now business partner, Christy. She’s the heart and original spark behind So Smuk and the reason this beautiful journey even began.
So Smuk means beautiful in Danish and was created with the intention of building something more than a brand. She dreamed of a space that celebrates the beauty in real life: the laughter and loss, the quiet in-betweens and the loud, joy-filled moments, the messy, ordinary, and sacred life.
When she invited me to come on board, it wasn’t just because we share a creative vision - it was because we share values, heart, and a love of people. She believes we can build something meaningful together. We believe in dreams and, more importantly, showing up for them. And that spirit is what infuses everything we do here.
What So Smuk Means to Us
This isn’t just a store. It’s a space that honors meaning, memory, and the simple but powerful act of giving. We offer thoughtfully curated pieces that speak to the real moments of life - joyful, heartbreaking, transformative, and the emotions that come with them.
We believe that giving something beautiful isn’t about the thing itself, but about what it says: “Life is beautiful”, “I see you”, “You are loved”.
Every product in our shop was chosen with that kind of intention behind it.
My Story
When I joined Christy on this journey, I brought with me a life filled with caring for others, showing up, holding space, and walking alongside people through both joy and pain. It’s a part of who I am and what I’ve always been made for.
I’ve spent time nurturing children, soothing, playing, and sharing in their joy. I’ve cared for babies with the same love and tenderness I’d give my own family. As time passed, my role of care shifted to my parents, where I stayed close and present through their final years and last moments - a deeply humbling and sacred experience that shaped me in ways I still carry today. Grief cracked me open, and in that space, I had to re-establish who I was and how I wanted to live.
These moments have shaped me. They’ve taught me that life is incredibly precious, deeply sacred and often unexpectedly beautiful.
And I bring all of that - every piece of that journey into So Smuk.
I’ve always found joy in the small things that mean everything, and some days, baking bread for someone or making a pot of soup for the people I love was the best moment of my day. Cooking has always been one of my love languages - a way to offer comfort and say, you’re cared for.
If you walk into my home on any Sunday morning, chances are good that something will be simmering on the stove and soon ready to feed someone I love.
And one of the greatest joys in my life? Being an auntie.
There’s nothing like the laughter, silliness, and pure connection that comes from being in the lives of my niece and nephews. They remind me how to be playful, how to be present, and how to celebrate even the tiniest things. The bond I share with them is one of my greatest treasures - it’s full of hugs, stories, chatter, inside jokes, and unconditional love.
I’ve learned that beauty shows up in all kinds of ways - in a meal made with care, in the joy of being Auntie Julie, in the quiet strength it takes to start again, and in the shared moments that say, you’re not alone.
My passion is people. I believe in community, movement, freedom, fun and the joy of simply being together. I come alive in connection - real connection. That’s why this brand means so much to me.
